What You Should Eat When You Have to Snack

"The key to feeling satisfied is to have snacks that offer fat, protein, and fiber. This is where nuts and seeds fit perfectly (they offer all three). Meanwhile, pretzels and rice cakes fail on all three counts; it's why they don't ever provide a feeling of fullness. Oatmeal is another quick and easy snack. Top it with some dried fruit or nuts (or, even better — stir in some nut or seed butter) to make it more filling. Guacamole and hummus are easy-to-find (and easy-to-make) dips that can be paired up with your favorite raw vegetable or whole-grain crackers." -Andy Bellatti Las Vegas-based nutritionist

#allpumpkineverything

"It’s been ten years since Starbucks introduced the pumpkin spice latte, now the chain’s most popular seasonal drink and referred to, colloquially, as the PSL. The company has sold more than 200 million cups of the sweet orange beverage, Forbes writes,

Taking heed of the wild success of this idea, other chains, including McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Donuts, and independent coffee shops started offering their own versions of the drink. Between 2008 and 2012, Quartz writes, the number of pumpkin-spiced whatevers increased by 234 percent in restaurants. And the trend doesn’t stop with coffee,Forbes says:

Meanwhile, breweries abound with pumpkin ales, there are pumpkin M&Ms this fall, and several distilleries are making pumpkin flavored whiskey. It’s even moved over into the regular fragrance world, notes Yahoo News, with pumpkin spice lotion, shampoo and candles."

The 10 Best Fried Chickens in NYC

"Among iconic American foodstuffs, fried chicken has the ability to generate a particular patriotic zeal, and southerners are by far the most vocal (rightfully so). The dish has a dark past: The beloved cooking technique was introduced to this country by people who found themselves cooking here through no choice of their own. Today the bird is a true art form, and the best examples of the genre are positively addictive, a singular organism of skin and meat fused by hot fat. It's a food that deserves its global stage--excellent variations come by way of Asia and South America--though southern styles are most prevalent in NYC. Here are the 10 best."

UMAMI CRONUT BURGER

"Like all moronic food quests, this one began as a joke: “What if you made a Luther Burger with a Cronut and an Umami Burger?!”

Let’s unpack that question for the uniniated/non-fat kids in the group: A Luther Burger is a burger variant of disputed origins that uses glazed doughnuts in the place of a bun; the Cronut is chef Dominque Ansel‘s doughnut-croissant mashup, currently the world’s most coveted (and notorious) pastry; and Umami Burger is the cultish West Coast burger joint that opened the doors to its first NYC location—one that has been buzzed about for more than a year—at 11am this morning.

To combine the Cronut and the Umami Burger into one Lutheran (?) package would be the ultimate triumph of hype-on-hype-on-hype, fat-on-fat-on-fat, zero-fucks-given, brunch-on-dinner-on-dessert #hastag feeding frenzy.

It all seemed like a punchline until one brave intern, Matthew Schonfeld (@MBSchonze), raised his hand and volunteered for Mission: Umami Cronut Burger. " - firstwefeast.com

DIY Soda Cooler Chills a Whole Fridge Pack for Grab-and-Go Convenience

"This simple DIY project will help you coolly transport a fridge pack of soda. Just grab the whole case, pop it into the custom cooler, and you're good to go. The instructions from Make are pretty straightforward. You'll need insulating material such as craft foam, a thin plastic for the outer covering (e.g., a shower curtain), and velcro to keep one end closed. Trace around a fridge pack to get the sizing and sew the sides together. (Make it a little bigger if you want to include room for an ice pack or two.) Not a fan of the sewing machine? Plastic adhesive could work too. While this might seem a lot of work just to cool all your soda cans, if you often party with a whole pack of cans, the project means you don't have to unload each can into a big cooler." -Lifehacker http://lifehacker.com/diy-soda-cooler-chills-a-whole-fridge-pack-for-grab-and-720542618

The Best Summer Ice Cream Flavors: Our Editors' Picks, 2013 (PHOTOS)

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/14/the-best-summer-ice-cream_n_3417468.html

"Even the most modest food markets carry more flavors of ice cream than any of us have the attention span to properly vet. The process of finding the right flavor takes you through a range of emotions that goes somewhat like this: 1) Overwhelmed, 2) Excited, 3) Doubtful, 4) Paranoid that fellow shoppers have noticed you've been looking at a wall of ice cream for 10 minutes, and finally, either 5) Defeated or Hopeful, depending on your decision.

We're here to instill some confidence in your ice cream selections this summer. Ever loyal to our dear readers, we bestowed upon ourselves the burdensome task of tasting approximately 45 flavors of the more unconventional ice creams on the market. Though we have included a pint of Ben & Jerry's in our selection, we tried to stay away from the typical brands you see every day at the supermarket, instead leaning toward small-batch, artisanal craftsmen who really know their stuff. (Don't worry, you can order most of them online if they're not available in your area.)

Among the flavors we sampled were several on the kooky side, featuring everything from birthday cake to flowers and candy swirls. But the true winners, for the most part, stuck to clean, fresh flavors. But don't worry -- these top 10 ice creams are far from boring. Give them a try and let us know what you think. Honestly, we're addicted to some of them."

Do You live in IHOP America or Waffle House America?

"Below are maps of all the IHOP and Waffle House locations. Given that these two chains have roughly the same number of franchises, Waffle House's density in the South is pretty astounding.* Greater Atlanta looks like it has a Waffle House every 20 feet, plus 50 IHOPs or so. Greater Atlanta is where it's at." -Deadspin
